Join artist Liz Larner in conversation with critic and writer Jonathan Griffin at Regen Projects on the occasion of exhibition, magnetic instinct, part of PST Art & Science Collide.
Informed by her own ongoing interdisciplinary study, including inquiry into material science, ecology and the Anthropocene, and questions of how and where we detect “intelligence,” magnetic instinct presents more than ten, new wall-based ceramic works installed to surround ‘Rubber Divider,’ 1989. Distinguished by the unique physical rules that govern its transition from soft to fragile to almost indestructible, Larner centers clay in part because of its apparent self-determination, a kind of material agency and chemical intelligence distinct from our own.
This VIP program includes a tour of the exhibition as well as an informal discussion between Larner and Griffin about this most recent body of work and Larner’s almost four-decade career as a sculptor.
Parking Information: Parking is available behind the gallery and along McCadden place.
