Contemporary artist Mark Dion’s installation evokes a behind-the-scenes space, showcasing his 10-foot-long sculpture of a fossilized pack rat skeleton and six new drawings of Ice Age mammal skeletons. Explore Dion’s blend of art and science, featuring natural and cultural detritus from the Tar Pits and Hancock Park, early museum murals, dioramas, and maquettes of Ice Age mammals. This tour offers a unique insight into Dion’s residency, including his work with fossils, taxidermy, and interviews with museum staff.
Parking Information: The museum’s parking lot is located at the corner of Curson Avenue and 6th Street, directly behind the museum. Payment for this lot can be made with credit card only. Enter from the western side of Curson Avenue. If you choose street parking, please read all parking signs carefully, as restrictions apply.
